How to shoot in the crowd / public?

The most difficult situation for photographers to shoot in a crowdy place, a tourist place or a place which is full of people etc, This crowdy situation is sometimes really good when you shoot with full of hurdles like when there is no space for movement, no handling opportunity for the camera, no adjustment at all etc. You cannot avoid this situation, you cannot correct people to shoot them, Also, you cannot blame anyone for spoiling the image. In India, there are several fairs, exhibitions, events, festival celebration and open auditorium shows that keep on happening throughout the year. 

Shooting in the crowd always keeps you hooked and booked. You cannot even take a long breath to shoot. Every time you have to keep holding your camera around your neck /hand and need to protect your camera and lens from the crowd and their belongings, But, there is one question that may arise, How to shoot successfully in the crowd? 

This is an article about only shooting successfully in a crowdy situation. I am mentioning a few important tips to follow that will help you definitely to shoot successfully in the crowd.   

Important tips to follow
  • Reach early in the morning or when the fair timing starts because that time there will be less public. good light and good fresh subjects will be there to shot. 
  • If going only for the shooting only then please avoid family members (sorry for mentioning this), many friends etc otherwise you will be more busy handling family and friends. Must be more focus to shoot. 
  • Never carry many lenses, big camera bags, and other extra luggage. carry only a camera to shoot with one lens only. Even I suggest do not carry a mobile too because a mobile also distracts you sometimes. 
  • Choose your lens wisely, carry a zoom lens because you can shoot an interesting subject from a long distance. Avoid a wide-angle lens or carry one extra lens if can handle it better. 
  • Don't waste time and shoot before the good light ends up. Avoid big queues for food and other requirement etc, please carry pack food and water etc. No shopping, no window shopping etc. Keep walking and try to capture the interesting subject before the natural light ends up.
  • Must carry your visiting cards to leave at the stalls, sometimes you can get a good client. It's a good marketing strategy. 
Conclusion - Never leave any fairs, events, or festival celebrations to capture. These small exercise helps you to understand the light condition, gives you the opportunity to capture good facial expression, candid moments etc
