How to get better background?

Focusing on your subject, manipulating them into a better appearance is quite common for photography and we all photographer spend most of the time for this job. It's our first requirement to shoot our subject in a better way, there is no harm with that. But how many of you know about creating an interesting background for the subject. If I guess, hardly 2 out of 10 photographers spend their time creating an interesting and great background for the shoot. I have interacted with those few beginners photographer who has completed their basic and advances photography courses but still, they are unaware of this creating background topic. well no problem, life is always a learning process.

The photograph is a mixture of foreground, Middle ground and background not only shooting the subject by keeping it in the middle of the frame. Seriously you have to think beyond that point. this will improve your level of photography. Let's discuss a few important techniques for creating an interesting background.

Choose as per your subject - If you are shooting a portrait of a woman & man then you need to explore good monuments, architecture and nature etc which suits your portrait and which bring out the better appearance of your models. If you are capturing a celebrity/businessman/famous person etc and going out is forbidden then you need to explore background in his home, office etc which defines and show your subject better, in this case, the background may be book rack, drawing room, roof, swimming pool etc. You have to think according to your subject, it is your important requirement.

Distracted background - Few photographers focus only on the subject and forget to notice the background and sometimes unwanted material, human, trees, home, door etc which is not appropriate for the subject at all, this may lead to reshoot. Distracting background may disqualify your photographs in all photo competition. and may stop your balance payment from your client.

Check background - It must be in your photography checklist that hunts or create an interesting background, sometimes you don't get a good subject to shoot but you shoot something out of the box which can be used as better background for the second image. See the below-posted image of the building exteriors. Once you cultivate the habit of exploring your background for your photography career then you will never be short of stunning background for your second image.

Conclusion - Choose a background that improves your level of photography as well as deliver a better and strong message to your viewers and your viewers spend more time on your photographs. The background is equally important as your centre of the subject. Never underestimate the background.

Keep experimenting! Have wonderful & happy photography life to you all
