Magic of Backlighting in the Photography

 

There are end numbers of lighting tips and tricks and every light technique is having its own charisma and sometime its called magic of the light. Out of all those charismatic lighting, there is one charismatic lights which is known as backlighting. Sometimes it plays a role of the backbone in the photography. It is also used in portrait, products, travel, landscape etc It is photographer's creativity how is add backlight to his subject to look more beautiful, more impressing, more communicative etc 

What is Backlighting - It can produce a variety of stunning effects. From creating silhouettes to capturing lens flares, It illuminates your subject from the backside and create wonderful art of photography. It is purely depends upon the subject, where camera is positioned against the light and settle the subject in-between the camera and light. here is altogether different trick is involved that you need to understand. Majority of the light is coming from the backside of the subject. But on common scenarios majority of the light is coming from behind the camera and photographer. VICE VERSA


When to use backlighting - There is no such timing, location, parameters etc where or when to use backlighting or something really demands backlight. It is purely depends upon the photographer's decision. When to use or when not to use. It is also depend upon the subject's requirement, sometimes fashion portrait, product demand colourful backlighting treatment. It is something unique that has to produce against the opposite light condition. You all must learn. 

Few common tips to follow

  • Use manual mode
  • Use tripod
  • Understand the backlighting
  • Capture silhouettes
  • Shoot in RAW
  • Use artificial colourful lights
  • Use props 

Evening time is the best timing for shooting backlighting shots, You may have golden hours to shoot (after sunset) there is lot of possibilities of getting different colours variation. If you are a beginner and going for experiment shoot then plan to shoot in the evening, must pre-visit the location before the shoot so that accordingly you can shoot creatively.  You must cultivate this habit in you to shoot in backlighting. Lots of pro-photographer spend maximum time to shoot in backlighting and its one their preferred shots.
