Once you are through with the understanding of the flashlight, I would like to mention one important technique to take your photography level at one step ahead. The technique is nothing but create a stunning light effect to your photographs. The technique name is BACKLIGHT TECHNIQUE. This technique always helps you to build and bolster your portfolio also establish you as a professional photographer.

You need less photography equipment For creating such a beautiful backlighting effect to your photographs like Two Speedlights or Medium Strobes along with gel, grid and other things to make light soft.
Now discuss, how you can create a backlighting effect to your photographs. Always remember, it is only a game of two lights, not more than of it. One is key light and secondary light. Let's understand.

Placement of first Key Light - I guess you all aware of the key light, the first and most important light to create magic in front of the model. But here, the scene is opposite and you have to create a backlight effect than in this case you have to shift the key light behind the subject with the two feet distance to spread the light on the model's faces or create attention on the faces.

Placement of Second Key light - After placing your first key light behind the subject then there is a requirement of illuminating the background behind the subject so that your model's attention and background lighting can support each other to create beautiful photographs.

Balanced both the lighting - Once both the lights are placed and started working perfectly then it is now photographer turns to adjust the light's intensity (less or more, soft or harsh etc) for both models and background to create magic and to impress the photograph's viewer.

Only the photographer can settle a light by reducing, increasing the intensity for a model, Can create soften, harsh light for the background etc. can add the colourful gel to create a colourful stunning shot. Importantly balancing the light is as important to the placement of both the lights.

Creating the backlighting effect is one of the tough tasks because you are playing with the backdrops or behind the subject. It purely depends upon the photography skills along with a great sense of understanding and creating a light effect. Which is the only job of a photographer?

Keep experimenting and Have wonderful and happy photography to you all.
