Buying USED photography Gears, A good Idea

The moment, we enter the world of photography as a hobbyist or amateur photographer and then we come to know the cost of photography equipment which is quite expensive to bear in the beginning. Most of us are students, dependent on the parents or no regular source of income. But what to do in this scenario because we have chosen our passion as a career. No bank ever provide support with any credit card, loan etc. Even no financial help from our friends at that time because we were at the same level at that time. 

Even I faced this problem when I choose photography as a career. No financial support to buy a good camera and lens, anyhow I managed to buy my basic DSLR and lens. The moment, I came to know that this is just a beginning, in photography, you require different expensive lenses and other accessories for different photography genres to shoot better photography. That movement I thought to drop the photography career because "Photography is an expensive affair" But gradually things becomes normal to me and started doing photography seriously. We must be busy in learning photography rather than making business plans in the beginning.

I have a few important tips to buy used photography gears when you start your photography career. When you cannot afford to buy expensive photography gears for your career. there is no harm to buy used gears at all, sometimes you get a good deal too. Please go through these points whenever you plan to buy used photography gears. 

Let's discuss a few important points before buying the used gears.
  • Buying used gears are cheap than buying new gears. This gives you a good experience to use and handle. There is no harm to use the used gears if get a good deal.
  • Buy the used gear from a reliable source like your photographer friend, company manufacture's dealers, photography community etc. Means buy from that person to whom you can return the gears to him if gears do not work efficiently. 
  • Never buy used gears from online store or website because I have the worst experience they write something different on the website and deliver the altogether different product. Once your money is gone then keep nagging behind them to return your money. Sometimes It kills you.
  • Never ever buy the used gears without warrantee, If no warrantee then drops an idea to buy the used gears.
  • Always try to know the history of the used gears like the original bill of the DSLR, lens, accessories etc. Check the shutter count before buying the DSLRs, Check closely for scratches on the lens. Check is there any fungus exists in the lens. Once you are fully convinced then move to buy along with informing them If things do not work better then I will return the gears. 
  • Do not buy the gear from very long distance source, you never know how many times you have to go to his place to get your refund if the gears do not work efficiently. sometimes people will not pick your phone because they knew that they are selling scrap to you. Avoid long-distance buying.
  • Go through the online reviews if buying the gears from the grey market, authorised dealers etc. Once reviews are genuine and available online then plan to move forward to buy.  
  • Never ever buy very old stuff means outdated or does not have a proven good record in the photography world. There are products who launched a long time back but couldn't succeed. In this case when you find these types of stuff in the market then check in google, do a proper recce etc and read the product reviews if find that things are quite OK then plan to buy. 
  • Always check the gears accessories like a camera bag, memory card, battery charger, strap, lens cap and bag, warrantee card if has. Because these are thing comes along with the gears when you buy a new one. Its better check carefully before you buy. 
Once again there is no harm of buying used photography gears at all if you get a good deal from the reliable sources. Check your gears before paying the money, ask for the maximum warranty period etc. Remember, everybody started at this level and become a good photographer. Photography gears are the tools for photography and have not made for shooting an amazing photograph. It is a photographer who is behind the camera to shoot stunning images.
