Beauty dish in Photography?

As long as you start getting involved in the photography world as much as you introduced yourself with new photography technologies, new modifiers, new accessories, new content, new genres etc means to write that there is no end of the photography. I hope you must have noticed one posted an interesting photograph above, Yeah! that is our today's article. It is one of the interesting light modifier called beauty dish in our photography world,

What is a beauty dish? - A shallow parabolic disc which is attached to a light source, you will find one plate which is covering the flash head. It causes the light to reflect back to the base. The Light will spill out to the sides of the main dish and aimed/hit forward to your subject because of the size and curvature of the dish. It's a simple definition to write, But I suggest you see this beauty disc physically near your any photography shop then you can really understand the mechanism.

Beauty dish's performanceThe beauty dish provides a concentrated light source where the centre is the brightest and the light gently falls off (transition from light to shadow areas) at the edgesIt spilt the perfect focus light on to your subject without a hotspot in the middle. It always delivers the semi-hard light, softer than the camera flashguns or strobe unit but harder than a softbox.

Mostly all the modifiers diffuse the light but A beauty dish reflect the light and illuminate the subject from all the best possible angles or wraps around the subject and creates good highlight and shadows. But sometimes you can create good softness by adding a diffuser to the beauty dish. A beauty dish creates good, beautiful shadows and catchlight in the model's eyes too. Beauty dish really works for the sports portrait, news anchors, portrait shoot, fashion model etc. I advise you to try at least once this modifier to see the results and compare with the softboxes etc

Beauty dish comes in different sizes starts from 16 -30 inches diameter and interior of the beauty dish comes in two coating 1- White, 2- silver. mostly photographers use the white coating beauty dish, The reason is that silver coating brings more contrast and more details then the white coating beauty dish. So please try both the dishes to see the results.
Keep experimenting, have wonderful and happy photography to you all
