Tips to shoot fashion shows

The fashion show is a collection of the designer's dresses and worn by celebrities, models, sometimes kids etc and showcase the entire range of dress collection through the catwalk on the ramp. Sometimes you get a chance to see and shoot all the celebrities and model from so close distance. Shooting fashion show is one of toughest job ever because you do not only shoot but shoot to capture entire dress along with the model in a fraction of second and that require your photography skills, Equipment knowledge, spontaneous action to capture the entire fashion show along with the great photographs.

Let's discuss the few important tips before you are hired professionally to shoot fashion show.

Know fashion show in advance- Before you plan a shoot, your first job is to know the fashion show details in advance like who's show is this, Which model is a show stopper, model and celebrities name and their turns etc. show timings and duration etc. This all information will help to shoot better. It is mandatory for all the photographer to know their event's details in advance.

Find a perfect spot- Always try to reach EARLY at the spot or location to settle down your self and suitable spot to shoot correctly, correctly means you get a perfect view of all the participants of the fashion show to shoot. Once you gotta perfect spot to shot means you are halfway through. Be an early bird and make this habit and I assure you this will pay you in future.

Perfect photographs - Fashion shows are short, so you only have a short window to take several impactful photos. This small duration is really very expensive for a photographer if the moment is skipped then there is no second round of the same designer dress, model & celebrity. Here, please follow some interesting steps.
  • Go for great composition covering model, dress, accessories and the odeons or visitors. The interesting composition is very important so please work on it.
  • Find the perfect fall of the light on the models before finalising the spot to shoot
  • Always use high-end lenses to capture such great events.
  • Never shoot the DISTRACTED or DISTURBING background. please avoid.
  • Never ever break the security circle, never ever jump to shoot when shooting not allowed, follow the location's rules and regulation.
Out of the box- Now once the shoot's preparation is done then there is one more creative room is left to shoot that is makeup room of the models or celebrities where dress designers, make-up artist, hair stylizer are doing their job before the show starts. If you have good contact with the show organisers, fashion designers, celebrities and they permit you to shoot inside the makeup room then you create good stories from makeup room to ramp. Think about this.

Keep experimenting and have wonderful and happy photography to you all.
