What is the right genre of photography to pursue forward? When a beginner photographer wanted to pick photography as a career. It is one of the toughest questions to answer. Whenever you start looking around you or photography world, you may found different genres of photographers like Fashion & advertising, Industrial, Interiors, exteriors, jewelry, products, wildlife, travel, Bottles & glasses, Food etc.

If someone asks you about your specialization or which is your well-covered territory. I guess, there is no answer. How someone can identify the market and its required specialization of photography in the beginning. How do you know your niche in photography?

Mark my words,  to become truly the master of a certain genre of photography, It takes intentional practice, detailed knowledge of light & camera equipment, creative eye to understand the subject, reading and writing habit of the latest photography trend. Understanding of the post-processing skills and your true Passion and Patience etc.

Beginner, the amateur photographer starts their career with shooting whatever they like to shoot. It is also good to understand the different light conditions, different challenges etc to get a good experience to go along. here I would like to mention that keep shooting and experiment, make an impressive portfolio to share with your prospective clients. This habit really works.

In the beginning, It is hard to judge yourself to identify the photography genres, every one of us faced this problem. Let's focus on some important points of finding your genres.
  • In which genres you found yourself more comfortable and shoot amazing photos.
  • Identify your interest means you like outdoor or indoor photography.
  • You like traveling the places and hunt for the better shot for the magazines.
  • Love to capture human expression, hand, body movement etc
  • Which genres' subject communicates well with you. Means which appeals to you more jewelry, machines, animal or a human.
  • Your love to read about which interesting genre
  • Understand your photo's feedback like what people feel about your photographs. Some may like wild photos or some may like a portrait. This will help you to choose the right genres.
Finally, the most important thing that makes you a good photographer that is your understanding of the right and correct photography equipment for the required genres. Because you should know the right lenses, filters, camera setting etc to shoot.

Last but not least,  you should try to know the commercial value of the shoot. Means portrait photographer charges, Product shoot charges, How much magazine pays to the travel photographer etc. You should have also a clear vision of your earning, market rates, and other charges etc.

Now, your job starts to explore yourself as a better photographer for the correct genres of photography. Start noticing your interest closely.

Keep experimenting and Have wonderful and happy photography to you all.
